Positive Behavior Supports

We believe that most behaviors are learned.  In order to support the development of positive school wide behavior, we have created a variety of positive behavior supports to encourage students to follow the Cedar Way. Students start school with a wide range of skills and understanding of what being a student really looks like, sounds like, and feels like. At Cedar Way, one of our goals is to support all students leaving our school as responsible, respectful, caring, and compassionate individuals dedicated to life-long learning. One of the ways that we address this is by ensuring that behavioral expectations throughout the school are well defined, explicitly taught, and positively reinforced for all students throughout the school year. These expectations are posted throughout the school as a reminder to both staff and students. Students showing the Cedar Way (showing respect, responsibility, safety, or service towards others or the school) receive positive reinforcement through clear and specific compliments from others and “Eagle Eye” tickets; red raffle tickets students enter into a drawing monthly to try to win school oriented prizes (lunch with a staff member, recess in the Solution Room). The Eagle Eye tickets and the drawings are a reminder to everyone to notice what we are all doing well and the good decisions students make every day.
