We miss you all during this school shut down due to the COVID 19 virus. We hope all of you are staying safe and are healthy. Below are a set of links that will direct you to the variety of services that the school district is providing while we are closed. Beginning again on April 13, every Monday, teachers will email instructions for your child's learning for the week.

Grab and Go Meals - there are a number of nearby spots where a breakfast/lunch combination of food is available for pick up. Use this link to find out where and when these take place.

Child Care - the district is providing child care for families that include First Responders and Health Care workers. This child care will open up to others as space is available.

Educational Resources and Support - use this site to access all of the online resources and help material that the school district uses.

Chromebooks and Internet - Having trouble with your child's Chromebook or needing help with Internet services? Use this site to contact our Technology Department.

Mental Health Resources - The stay-at-home order has been difficult for everyone. Use this site for advice and resources for coping.

School District Updates - Keep up with the latest information from the school district during the closure.

Please stay in touch with your child's teacher throughout the shutdown. We can do this - together!

Hello Cedar Way Elementary Families,

This is your principal, Chris Lindblom. As you know, Washington State’s governor has required all schools in the area to be closed through April 24th to help prevent the spreading of the Coronavirus. Our teachers and the school district have been very busy since this announcement planning for ways to continue your child’s education, provide food services, and have options for childcare.

At some point today, you will receive an email message from your child’s teacher providing guidance and educational tools. Some of these tools will be links to online resources. They may have instructions for picking up copies of schoolwork next week at Cedar Way.

All teachers will be at school next Monday, March 16th during regular school hours. You or your children are more than welcome to stop by the school to pick up this material directly from our teachers. Our library will also be open during school hours on Monday for students to check out books.

Our school office will be open Monday – Friday next week from 9:00 – 3:00 if you are not able to come on Monday.

Throughout this closure, it is very important for our school to have your correct email addresses and phone numbers. Please call or stop by our office to update these if needed. Our office phone number is 425-431-7864.

Thank you to everyone. Stay safe throughout this closure. We are looking forward to getting back to normal as soon as we can.

March 6, 2020

The worldwide outbreak of the new Coronavirus has everyone on edge and wondering what is next. To be as proactive as possible, our school district is working daily with the Snohomish County Department of Health to make sure we have the most up to date information and recommendations. We rely on our regional and national experts to provide us the facts needed to make informed decision for our kids, families, and staff. Right now, their recommendation is to keep schools open but take preventative measures to help assure the health and safety of everyone.

As a result:

  • We have shifted our daily custodial duties to disinfecting the school. Our two custodians, Kevin and Shelly are now wiping down all surfaces throughout the day with a cleaner that is proven to kill all germs, bacteria, and viruses but also is safe around kids.

  • We are also heavily promoting hand washing and use of hand sanitizer gel with our students and staff throughout the school day.

  • If a student arrives on campus with any symptoms of the coronavirus, we have newly updated procedures to support, isolate, and send the student home as quickly as possible (we have not had to do this yet).

  • We are teaching our kids about the virus; what it is and what it is not.

  • All field trips throughout the month of March have been cancelled.

  • All ‘community use’ activities at our school have been cancelled for the month of March.

  • We have postponed our multicultural night until June.

  • All other clubs, the play rehearsal, Move 60, CW food bank, and Right at School will continue as normal.

Important things to consider:

  • As of now, the regular flu is showing much more of an impact on Americans than COVID-19.

  • Symptoms of COVID-19 primarily include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. These symptoms appear 2 to 14 days after exposure.

  • COVID-19 spreads between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) via coughs or sneezes. It may also spread by touching a surface or object with the virus on it. Viruses typically do not survive on surfaces for an extended time (beyond 2 hours).

  • People are thought to be most contagious when they are the sickest, though some spread is possible before people show symptoms.

  • If your child has any of these symptoms, it is important to keep them home for the duration of the illness.

Please refer to the announcement the school district made today for details. If anything changes in our school routines, you will continue to receive notification from our school district via email, text alert (if you have signed up), and on the district website. You can access the district’s daily updates here: Daily Updates for School District.

Of course, every family needs to make their own decisions about what they think is the safest thing to do for them. We will continue to excuse absences if you choose to keep your child(ren) home while this outbreak is occuring. If you do, please contact our attendance line by calling 425-431-7864 by 9:30 a.m. Press 1 for the attendance line.

If you have any questions or comments about any of this, feel free to email me at lindblomc@edmonds.wednet.edu.
